Submersible Waterproof Sensors
Measurement range of 0-100% O2 and a detection limit of 0.03% O2
The PreSense OXYBase WR series probes utilized by Canary Systems in heap leach monitoring solutions are capable of monitoring both gaseous and dissolved oxygen content. These probes use a combined optical sensor type PSt3 and electro-optical module within a 12mm diameter stainless steel tube. The submersible probes have a measurement range of 0-100% O2 and a detection limit of 0.03% O2. RS232 and RS-485 communication options are available for the sensor, depending on the cable length requirements for the application. Armored cable, including stainless steel tubing, can be connected to the sensors in applications where cables will be buried within the ore heap to ensure longevity.
The OXYBase WR sensors are used in conjunction with the Canary Systems’ MCLOG, MLDAQ, and MLRemote stations for automated data collection and seamless integration. Data from the logger and sensor are collected through either MultiLogger® or MLWebHardware. Using a cellular connection, the information is available for viewing on the integrated browser-based data visualization platform MLWeb®. Charts, graphs, and reports can all be configured directly in MLWeb to analyze oxygen and temperature data as an indication of the overall effectiveness of the leaching process.

A large copper mine located in Arizona expressed interest in monitoring temperature and oxygen variations within their run of mine (ROM) stockpile. In the process of bioleaching, the bacterium aids in the breakdown of minerals that are typically resistant to leaching, but the health and functionality of this bacteria is contingent on the levels of oxygen and temperature present within the stockpile.
To assess the efficiency of the leaching process and ensure the optimal health of the bio-leaching bacteria, Canary Systems has assisted with the installation of oxygen and temperature sensors at various elevations throughout the heap leach. These sensors provide valuable data on the internal conditions of the stockpile, enabling the mine to make informed decisions regarding the management of their mining operations.
Using MLWeb®, the innovative browser-based data visualization platform, site personnel can easily configure charts, graphs, and reports to effectively analyze and visualize the oxygen and temperature data from the sensors installed within the heap leach. By closely monitoring the temperature and oxygen levels, the mine can gain insight into the health and viability of the bacteria, ensuring optimal leaching efficiency and minimizing potential losses.
