Employee Article featured in Canadian Geotechnical Society Magazine
Emma Åström, Global Implementation Manager at Canary Systems, was recently featured in the Winter 2024 edition of ‘Canadian Geotechnique’, a magazine founded by the Canadian Geotechnical Society dedicated to advancing geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, and related disciplines in Canada.
The magazine serves as a key communication tool for geotechnical professionals, researchers, and industry experts, covering a wide range of topics including case studies, technical articles, and more.
Emma’s article explores the pioneering work of the Swedish State Railway’s Geotechnical Commission, established in 1913 to investigate railway landslides. The Commission developed innovative soil testing methods, including Sondborrning (a precursor to the Swedish Weight Sounding Method) and the Konsistensbestämming (Swedish Fall Cone Test). Their work laid the foundation for modern geotechnical engineering, particularly in slope stability analysis and early warning systems for landslides.
