Tailings Monitoring Webinar

In June 2019, we held a webinar that covered two methodologies typically employed in monitoring tailings dams/levees:

  • internal deformation, settlement, load, and pore pressure;
  • external deformation and leakage.

The Takeaway
Both methodologies should be employed. External monitoring is important but internal stability of the structures always provides leading indicators of failure, i.e. it provides more time for mitigation of potential failures.

This webinar outlined several methods for each type of monitoring, and outline their strengths and weaknesses; including Satellite Radar (InSAR), Ground-Based Radar, In-Place Inclinometers, Shape Accelerometer Arrays, Settlement Sensors, Pressure Cells, Piezometers, GPS, Robotic Total Stations, Wire Extensometers, and Weirs.

The webinar is now available for viewing online without registering. Watch it on your schedule or share it with anyone who would find the information useful!
